If you have light colored carpet, you may have experienced dark stain lines around baseboards, under doors, and especially near the HVAC return. The particularly pernicious brand of carpet stain is called Filtration Soiling. This soiling comes from air passing through the carpet as it is attempting to go through the edge of the carpet pile, microscopic particles of soil are deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a build-up has occurred.

Why are Filtration Soiling Stains so Difficult to Remove?

This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet. In addition, they have an electrical “charge” that bonds them firmly to the fiber. Can these carpet stains be removed? Sometimes.

No Worries … Our 4-Step Filtration Soil Removal System

Step 1 – Apply

With a flip-top bottle, we apply a gel solvent to the filtration lines (the use of a gel solvent is safer as it doesn’t have a high risk of creating delaminating).

Step 2 – Agitate

We agitate the chemicals on the carpet fiber (tamping or carefully scrubbing) and let them mix and dwell for several minutes. ·

Step 3 – Rinse

Rinse. We use a specially designed edging / crevice tool sold to professional carpet cleaners.

Step 4 – Repeat

For particularly stubborn soils, we will repeat all of these steps.
